Hey Ms Kazimi! :)
I have chosen to do the film opening of the movie Step Up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWMe3k_XBUU
Its about a guy Tyler and a dancer Nora, from Maryland School of Arts. Tyler meets Nora when doing 200 hours of community service at the school and when Nora's dancing partner sprains his ankle, after she sees Tyler dancing, he offers to help out and be her partner. Because Nora does ballet and Tyler does Hip Hop they both have to teach each other their style of dance. In the end they both dance the finale with some trouble on the way but it is a happy ending. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Step_Up_%28film)
The opening of this movie shows the two different types of dance. Hip hop in the outside in the rain on the street where there are guys and girls dressed in trackies and t-shirts while in a studio it shows the ballet dancing in their leotards and tights dancing peacefully etc. It also shows how the Ballet dancers have an organised dance while the Street Dancers are dancing freestyle. This beginning of the movie fits into the film as a whole because it shows the two different types of dances, hip hop and ballet, and these two dance types continue throughout the movie.
This appealed to me because I'm interested in dance.
I chose this opening because it always switches from hip hop to ballet which are such different types of dance but the music blends them in.
Great that you have chosen your film opening, and you have described what happens, how it fits in the film as a whole and also why it appeals to you. It looks like there will be some interesting aspects for you to discuss as well, since the opening sets up the main idea as well as the conflict pretty clearly. In your thinking about tone/mood and atmosphere, you might want to make this a different blog post so you can go into more detail. You should also have a look at the O Tamaiti exemplar to see how you can add more depth and detail to your explanations. Great start: I love the colourful background image!
