Genre/Atmosphere

Genre/Atmosphere

What is the tone, mood and how it is created?
The hip hop dancing brings a gangster type feel to it because of the type of clothes they are wearing and also because it is on the street and in the dark which doesn't bring a very welcoming environment as it seems a bit scary. When it switches to the ballet it brings a flowy peaceful feel to it and this is shown by the bright lighting which shows the safeness. Also their costumes, tutu's and tights etc, show the commitment they have to the dance. The song brings excitement to both of the dances and when you see the street dancing you don't know what is going to happen because the music makes a bit of a scary scene like there could be a drive by shooting but when you see the ballet it brings a better feel to it. After seeing both of the dances mixing together, it makes you know that something is going to happen involving the two but it makes you wonder how they are going to do it.
This film appeals to it's young audience because the music creates an energetic and exciting sound. The dark and then the sudden change to light also appeals to the young audience as it catches the eye.

  1. Some good points about how the director has built contrast in the introduction. Can you elaborate on how this is meant to appeal to the film's target audience? Then move onto choosing four film techniques to focus on for C: check my blog to see some extra questions and ideas for what to respond to for each. Keep going!
